These training sessions are usually held inside a prison. We are hosting one in the Dallas area at a local church. This eliminates the need to clear security in a prison just to attend the class. But time is of the essence.
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice is requiring all volunteers to complete the TDCJ Volunteer Training every two years. There is no cost associated with the training. A new volunteer can enter a prison 4 times in their lifetime then they must become approved. They will not be allowed to enter the prison if they are not an approved volunteer.
You must fill out the state application very early so they can process the application and get it back to you before the class.
I am attaching a link to the state application and I have attached the application with this form for your convenience.
http://tdcj.state.tx.us/pgm&svcs/online%20vol%20app%20Revision%202010.pdf
Please complete this current application – every line - and mail it to the address indicated. They must receive it by April 15 in order to get your approval letter back to you
In the bottom section of the first page, please check Chaplaincy and you must put your faith denomination on the blank. (ex. Christian Baptist)
If you are an ex-inmate enclose a support letter from your pastor. Otherwise your application won’t be processed in time by our meeting in June.
If you are on parole, a letter from your parole officer must be included with your application.
If you are an approved volunteer and your last training was at least 18 months ago, you do not need to fill out the application again. Just come to the class. If you are approved already, you can take the class online every other year.
You will receive a notice from Huntsville informing you of the training courses in your area and the dates available. Our class will not be listed on this notice. If you do attend a different class at a prison, you will take that form to the training. Once you have attended the training, the TDCJ Volunteer computer will automatically be updated with your information and you will be an APPROVED VOLUNTEER. You will not receive any further correspondence from the state.
If you took the volunteer training PRIOR to June 2005 and you have not been into a prison since that time, your name has been dropped from the volunteer computer and you will need to re-apply with the state to attend the training again to be reinstated.
The class will be Saturday, June 18 (the day before Father’s Day) at Freedom Church, 2435 East Hebron Parkway, Carrollton, TX 75010 from 9:00 am until 1:00. No food will be served. But feel free to bring in your own. Please be on time.
***If you are going to attend this training opportunity, please let us know so we can plan ahead for which room to use. I will send you another email telling you which room we will be in at the church.
Worldwide Voice in the Wilderness thanks you for volunteering your time and talents to further the Kingdom on God in the prison system. We look forward to many more years of reaping the harvest of your sowing. You are very needed in the Kingdom of God.
Please call if you have any questions.
Thank you so very much for your labor of love!
All for HIS glory,
Johnny & Betty Moffitt
