"8 Leadership Keys during Transition, Crisis or Challenge"

Crisis in Chinese is represented by two symbols meaning change with opportunity.  If you allow God to develop your leadership during times of crisis, you will have no problem with transition and challenge.

For your church, organization or marketplace effort to remain relevant, viable and effective, may I suggest the following eight keys for your leadership team's consideration:

1.  Scan the Environment.  The essence of remaining relevant is having a strategy that is effective and defining the implications of current trends.  Those you lead live in the real world.  How does your leadership strategy help or hinder them with their marketplace challenges?.

2.  Revisit Your Mission, Vision and Values.  Clarity about these is leadership's number one priority.  Communicating them with frequency is number two.

3.  Ban the Hierarchy. Structure, systems and policies are management tools and should not be canonized.  People should be in strategic leadership positions for leading creative change that fulfills the vision and no other reason.

4.  Establish Zero-Based Programs.  Are present programs, events, policies and activities fulfilling our mission and vision?  Do they support our values?  If not, we need to implement planned abandonment.

5.  Employ the Power of Language.  Speak the Word of Faith and not words of doubt.  Be a hope dealer not a dream killer.  Have few but clear and consistent messages coming from the leadership team.

6.  Deploy Leadership Widely.  Flatten the flow chart and leadership pyramid.  Strategic leadership is about the future and management is about the present.  Both are vital but require different gifts.  Great leaders know the difference and deploy leaders appropriately.  Strategic leaders spend 80% of their time contributing to the future growth, health and maturity of the organization for which they are responsible.

7.  Lead From the Front.  Don't push from behind - that's motivation.  Inspire others through your behavior and passion.  Trying to inspire unmotivated team members is not only tiring, but bears little fruit.

8.  Assess Your Efforts.  Maintain well-defined Mission, Vision and Values Statements the team refers to often.  Create a Strategic Planning Process that provides direction, focus and serves as a valuable tool for setting goals, creating action plans and measuring results.

Whether you are going through an uncomfortable transition, a demanding challenge or a threatening crisis, these eight keys will give you and your team relief and confidence.  They have helped me as I have developed them through my leadership opportunities since 1966.

WVIW Marriage Seminar Volunteers

[[posterous-content:pid___0]]WVIW hosts between 4 and 5 Marriage Seminars in prisons and for prison staff every year. Each marriage seminar is planned very similarly, however, each one turns out very uniquely.

This uniqueness comes for a variety of reasons one of the main being our volunteers.

Each volunteer comes to Worldwide Voice In the Wilderness from a different background and for several different reasons. I think it is safe to say that one attribute that is shared by ALL of our volunteers is that GOD has shown Himself to each volunteer in a HUGE way in their lives.

A comment by a dear friend to our ministry this week made a huge impact in summing up what it means to be a volunteer for @wviw

There are those whose lives affect all others around them. Quietly touching one heart, who in turn, touches another. Reaching out to ends further than they would ever know.

Below are a few comments from several Marriage Seminar Volunteers which may explain why they keep coming back to help us host these highly impactful seminars.

"I told God you Gotta show me how to change and boy did He show me." B.G.

"My self esteem was down below my toes. I was a very broken person who didn't think God could love me but He gave my life meaning and purpose. When everything was falling apart God didn't leave me." B.C.G.

"I love Jesus cause he let's me be me. I found out I could be a Christian and be myself." C.N.

"I love the Lord for delivering me and for saving me. He revealed himself to me over the years time, after time, after time. I didn't want to go the right direction but He boxed me in and didnt let me go." N.N.

"[When I grew Up] God was never spoken of unless it was in a curseword. I was in jail and I began to learn that God loved me and He wanted me. I was so bad and He still wanted meSo I will spend every day of my life loving him back." N.A.

Thank you for your support and prayers for this ministry.
