WVIW Marriage Seminar Telford Unit 2010

This month Our Team will head to New Boston, Tx on a trip to the Telford Unit prison. On May 14th - 16th the WVIW staff along with 20 volunteers will meet up with 25 women who have husbands in prison at this unit. These 25 wives come from all over the state of Texas and have been married to their husbands for anywhere from 2 to 25 years . They are from every walk of life and sometimes the only common bond with each other is having faced the challenges of being married to a felon.

These women are strong, courageous and unfettered in their resolve to be the best wife & mother they can be. Regardless of their current set of circumstances they will attend WVIW's Marriage Seminar with much anticipation of the positive life change that has become a regular occurrence at these seminars. Some of this year's attendees have been to a WVIW Marriage Seminar before and are returning this year because they know full well all the advantages. The weekend is the largest stretch of visitation time most of these couples will experience for their entire sentence. For others this weekend may represent more visitation hours at one gathering than they have had ALL year.

WVIW creates an environment where a husband and a wife can share in and experience all that God has to offer their marriage.

We begin this by having couples sit side by side (this is strictly prohibited in regular visitation), enjoy breakfast, lunch, & dinner together, sing & worship God together, and hear & engage with dynamic teaching. Most of these things can be taken for granted by couples everyday, but here these precious moments are cherished and guarded as if they were currency.

Once we allow this experience to saturate the room and become reality for our attendees we are at a place where our volunteers are not only a welcome addition but a completely vital part of the weekend.

Our volunteers attend with one goal: To Serve. They are invited to be a part of this sacred weekend to serve each of the couples in any way possible. This will include serving food and drinks throughout the weekend, socializing with each couple, and even connecting as Small Group Leaders in the discussion times. Some of the best and longest running friendships have been forged between volunteers and attendees during WVIW's Marriage Seminars.

Each of our Seminars always turn out to be "the best weekend ever" for just about everyone who attends. This is not a coincidence. That is exactly what we pray for as we schedule and prepare for each weekend. We spend several weeks praying over each attendee and over the facility before the first invitation is sent in order to ensure that God is not only a part of the weekend, but that HE is the weekend.

Only God could transform lives in the way we have seen and only God could build an environment this rich and full of life altering experiences.

All we do is pray, prepare, and show up.
